PMP400 firmware ver 10 (final release)
« on: July 08, 2008, 01:56:22 AM »

For those looking for the latest firmware ver 10.

As I wrote on the download page. Ver 10 is not available for download yet......Please don't keep asking. It does not help.....Buying would help, asking doesn't help at all.

Even if we have it on hand, we might hold it for a period of time before general release due to privacy of our firmware and to thorough testing of the firmware. Unless you can suggest a way to block privacy. Sorry for the inconvenience.
(Blame the ones who copy and benefit from our firmware without giving us anything in return.)

Change log
Version: XXXXXXXX PMP OS V3.01
Firmware date: 9th July 2008
- 7 languages: Simplified Chinese, English, Spanish, German, Polish, Slovak, Czech
- Czech language fix
- Equalizer renamed to Balance
- Ogg playback fix
- current playback mode of the music file is such as the Balance, Normal, Random, Repeat is highlighted
- remote is up/down = height resize, left/right = volume

My first post!
Hope this is not a silly suggestion.  Smiley

Could you not put it on your site without a link so that people can’t find it until you send them the link?

As added protection you could also put the file in a password protected encrypted zip or rar archive.

You could then email all your customers the link and password assuming you have a mailing list for them all.

Won't work...........the current firmware are on the web server but have been protected through the "ordering" system for quite a long time. However, lately I realized that someone literally copy it and host it on their server, they didn't even rename my zip file!!!! That's why I have been losing a lot of sales because they are literally make a profit out of my efforts. (you won't believe how much time and effort we spend to get the new firmwares........it is ridiculous. Hence, the new model.....100% build by us.) It is not about bandwidth stealing nor hiding the location of the actual file......

I have thought of it, but it won't work because once it is the file is extracted, you can always re-zip it. Plus, it will only cause troubles to the customers if they don't know how to extract it.

The problem is I don't know how they get hold of my firmware. They must have either pretend to be my customer to get it or get it via one of my customers. Or one of my customers provide uploading it somewhere after they have downloaded it.

I have been thinking but seriously, there isn't much I can do about it............

Well if it is one of your customers then they are STUPID!

Like you said the more PMP400's you sell the better the chance you have of getting things fixed in any future firmware updates.

Can they be getting them from the same person as you? manufacturer?

they could get it from the manufacturer but they can't get it zipped using the exact file name that I had!!!! because I have renamed and re-zipped it myself. Plus, the version system I use is completely different from the actual "version" number written inside the firmware. The version number only exists on my web page to differentiate the different firmwares. (it is quite hard to tell if I give you the actual firmware files but do not name it with my version number.)

So, I am 100% sure they get it from me somehow.....

Anyway, like I told u. If you consider everything I provide to users, I don't make any profit selling the PMP400. Things would change when the new model comes out because we would be the sole supplier/manufacturer, regardless who is selling it. Unless they go and starting making one themselves..........

Since some of use just recently purchased a pmp400 online. It would be nice to update to the newest firmware. Adding a $40.00 fee for firmware is actually a bigger step backwards than archos charging for codecs... which I refuse to pay for and hence went to this unit just for AC3 support. Since I know there is a licensing factor to deal with. Ill give archos a reluctant pass (they could have purchased a bulk license for any and all codecs really cheaply some are already free. (its a scam) however to charge for corrections to a faulty operating system is really low. Unless you are doing a complete overhaul of the OS.. like going from xp-vista.

We charge a fee because this is OUR company specific firmware, tailor designed ONLY for customers who purchased directly from us. It is not meant to be given for free for those who purchase an identical hardware from other places. You are free to find the manufacturer and ask them to give you the firmware. (which you will find that it is impossible to find and they won't respond to you either.) The manufacturer's (or your retailers') absence of support does not mean it is our responsibility to provide it at our cost.

BTW, there are other customized version of this firmware elsewhere (though not better than ours here), made for those company who paid tens of thousands of dollars for the customization.

Didn't realize you were making your own version of the firmware.. or what the rest of the nerd world call " a hack" of the firmware. what I have read this v10 is still as buggy as the rest. I do appreciate the clarification, I originally thought you were a manufacturer/distributor in which case it would be fundimentally wrong to sell firmare, I do appreciate any 3rd parties effort into trying to fix the substandard firmware. I guess theres just too many bugs to fix em all.

Well, we didn't "hack" the firmware. It is still done by the manufacturer but whatever we have achieved is what we can get from them (or what they are capable of).

If you find someone hacking or making their own customized firmware for this hardware, feel free to report and share your finding. (so far, we have not seen any effort on it. Market penetration of this product is probably too low for this to happen.)
